Double Or Nothing Strategy For Poker

Double or nothing strategy to help in a double or nothing poker tournament can take you a long way in these new tournaments. For purposes of illustration, understand that such a tournament is one in which 10 players start and in which the last five players left are paid out double the amount that they paid to buy in.

When you come to the tournament, take care to check out who the competition will be on the sign-up sheet. If there are four or more names already on the sheet, the chances are good that you will be playing with regulars. This isn’t bad, but it does mean that you will have to adjust your style of play to compete against regulars where as your style can be more loose competing against random players.

Most poker experts say that you should have enough buy-in chips backing you to play your game comfortably. For the most part, most professional players start with 40 buy-ins in a typical tournament. Recreational layers usually will start with 20 buy-ins. As an example, in a typical tournament you will need to start your equity at and if you double you’ll be looking at . 55.

When it comes to strategy, beginners need to remember that anytime they open from an early — meaning close to the dealer — position they will want to have a strong hand such as a big pair. In some cases, the Ace/King combination can also work, but that would be the bare minimum in order to open when you are so close to the dealer.

If you are playing in a later position that is farther away from the dealer you can adjust your opening hands accordingly. Try to never call a push if you have only fold equity after the hand has been completed. If you intend on doing that, keep in mind that you’ll need to create an 80% odds favorite just to try to break even.

As you move through the tournament, keep in mind that in the early stages you want to play in a very tight manner. The middle stages of the tournament will require that you watch your stack and try to keep it from going down too much. In the end or later stages try to avoid going out on any bubble. At a minimum, know what your buy-ins will be and what to do if you’re left with just fold equity.
